Scarleth's Disability Reflection
As to our recent demonstrations to
different types of disability I would like to say WOW. I can truly now
understand more about the disability world and I am proud to have some background
knowledge on it. There are many people in our community that pass by you and
most of the time they will have a disability. You might just not know about it
because no one knows your life and story. I feel that educating yourself to
know this information is important and I’m grateful to be one of the handfuls
to learn about it. The presentations being given were so informational and made
very easy to understand. The PowerPoint itself was different rather than the
first one because it included a lot of research to provide and a lot of
teamwork.
As we all know, Group 1 was the very first
to present in the beginning of class session; They spoke about the Mobility,
Spinal, and Head disability. Their work really showed through the PowerPoint
although some tweaks were shown. I find that they did a much better job than
the first presentation they set out. Something they improved on immensely was that
they managed to put all the information on one PowerPoint rather than breaking
them down to several ones. It saved precious time and was not chaotic like the
very last one. I remember that within Group 1 they distributed the poster and
brochure within the middle of the PowerPoint. I would have liked to see them at
the very beginning to get a sense of what information was in each chapter.
Another thing I viewed was that when people were presenting, a handful of them
were reading off the slides especially since all the information was written
down on the PowerPoint. I would have liked to see more visuals preferably but
many have their own techniques that they would like to give.
Afterwards, Group 2 was the one to present
and spoke about the visuals and hearing disabilities. My group itself are very
hard working people but I feel like many of us like to work under pressure. We
all found ourselves to be working the night before and keeping up with each
other’s work which I love about us. Behind the scene, we always talk to each
other on a group chat to keep updates of what we are doing. Overall, I feel
like our presentation was phenomenal written and verbally distributed to the
audience. We tried making our presentation as colorful and light weight to talk
more about the topic without having to read off the slides. Although some of
the slides looked a bit clustered when presenting I feel like it was a
technical issue and smothered the information together.
Lastly, Group 3 was the last to present the
very next class about Cognitive, Psychological, and Invisible. This group
presented the poster and brochure very informative and was amazing! They
connected each chapter well and transferred each information as supposed to.
Although, some of the information provided wasn’t linking with what they spoke
about sometimes it was overall a good presentation. The PowerPoint was neat and
they didn’t have to call on the next person after each person finished talking
like last time.
In conclusion,
these groups showed improvement since the last time they presented. I find the
notes our class leaders set out to be such an amazing way to give us our
feedback. We all worked hard and it shows through our PowerPoints. All the
groups thought outside the box to make their presentations short but educational
and had some creative images. I feel like when we all work together it creates
a big impact on everyone and motivates us to move forward. I’m grateful to have
learned so many things in this speech class and perceive to improve ourselves
each time we present. We are all human and loved by many and should appreciate
everything around us including our disabilities.
Absolutely excellent blog!!!
