Scarleth's Disability Reflection

As to our recent demonstrations to different types of disability I would like to say WOW. I can truly now understand more about the disability world and I am proud to have some background knowledge on it. There are many people in our community that pass by you and most of the time they will have a disability. You might just not know about it because no one knows your life and story. I feel that educating yourself to know this information is important and I’m grateful to be one of the handfuls to learn about it. The presentations being given were so informational and made very easy to understand. The PowerPoint itself was different rather than the first one because it included a lot of research to provide and a lot of teamwork.      As we all know, Group 1 was the very first to present in the beginning of class session; They spoke about the Mobility, Spinal, and Head disability. Their work really showed through the Po...

So far, the class has been great throughout the weeks. My group’s presentation on the chapter was amazing and we did awesome! After all the presentations were done, we received our second presentation which is a theme project on disability awareness. I like how we are given the chance to speak on something that is barely spoken about. Each group received different disabilities such as visual or mobility and many more. We were given the task to create an awareness poster and brochure alongside with a PowerPoint presentation. It was good for a presentation to bring awareness and it showed me the several types of disabilities, I actually enjoyed it! As always, the first group goes first! They had the chance to talk about mobility, spinal and head disabilities. At the beginning, they started off so well by having valuable information that did not take up the whole screen. This presentation was way better and more organized than the first presentation for sure. Their work was in just one ...

Welcome back! This reflection is based on our second speech, which centered around the theme of disabilities. As Sherri explained this speech's main idea and topics, my group excitedly hoped to get visual and hearing disabilities. Ideas of posters and brochures began forming and Yuni, our group leader, had already begun thinking of people she could get interviews with. Lucky for us, Sherri split the disabilities for each group, and we got the exact ones we hoped for!     After we got assigned our chapters and disabilities, the confusion started to settle in. We had all gotten used to the format of our first speech and now that we had more components such as posters, brochures, and study guides, we were all kind of...lost. However, this is the perfect reason to have a group leader. Even though she was probably just as lost as the rest, Yuni begun splitting up the work for this speech. We were split into a visual group and a hearing group. We all hurried to type in the cha...

Davier's Disability Reflection

This was our second project and it was about people with different disabilities. It was a really interesting topic to talk about and to find information. Our job was to do a presentation to explain how different disabilities affect the daily life of these people. The disability that my group was working on was hearing and visual disabilities. This project was a little different from the first one because on the first one we just did a PowerPoint. For this one, we not only made a PowerPoint, but also a poster, a brochure, and we interviewed two people, one with hearing disability and another one with a visual disability. We also had to research on the different perspectives the world has versus the United States on disabilities. Also, we did some research on the history behind these disabilities. We listed some of the organizations that are involved to help these people.           ...

It was really difficult at first whether or not I wanted to take this class this semester due to the coronavirus, I thought about it numerous times. Should I take the class or should I wait until this pandemic is over? Will I honestly learn about anything online? I always thought speech class was about learning how to speak properly in front of people or maybe learn how to listen to others better. I never really thought about it being a crucial learning class, But luckily I was wrong.            These past weeks I've learned so much in so little time. I learned how to work as a team, how to build friendships quick and even about disabilities. Something I never really thought about in my life, I learned it in speech. My group and I have been working on a project, which in my opinion is one of the hardest topics I've ever done. The topic was about Hearing And Visual Disabilities. In my section of the group we were...

Hello!!!!  Our second presentation was a little different. We had to make a brochure, a poster, and our PowerPoint presentation. We had to talk about visual and hearing impairment. Really at first, I didn't know where to start. It was a bit difficult for me to talk about a topic that I don't know well and that I could say that I have ignored for a long time, perhaps because it did not affect me directly. Selfish of me. Talking about disabilities was not as easy as I thought. I felt a lot of pressure. I had to be careful when expressing myself, be aware and inform myself well on the subject. Every word I was going to use was going to define something. I began to investigate and read about each disability, not just hearing and visual. I felt that I had ignored an important topic for a long time and with which we live daily. I realized that many disabilities surround us; that's how the world is made up. Notorious and not notorious disabilities, ...
